Absolute Key are a solo project form Finland that plays an industrial form of black metal and this is a review of his 2022 album "The Third level of Decay" which will be released in December by Signal Rex.
Drones and underground industrial sounds start off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while melodies can also be heard in the guitar riffing at times and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Synths are also added into certain sections of the album while the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere on some of the tracks. During the faster sections of the songs a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
The album also has its repetitive moments along one track also adding in a brief use of clear vocals, noises are also added on some of the songs as well as some guitar leads also being utilized briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death and decay themes with some inspirations from t he poetry of Eino Leino.
In my opinion Absolute Key are a very great sounding industrial black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Wrecked Spine" and "The Third Level Of Decay". 8 out of 10.
