Mallus Spiritus are a duo from Portugal that plays a very aggressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Vultures Of Despair" which will be released in December by Raging Planet Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Spoken word parts can b e heard on a few tracks as well as a brief use of clear chants along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking in the faster riffing also gives the music more of a raw feeling. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also being more rooted in the modern era with some old school touches.
Guitar leads can also be heard on a couple of tracks as well as some of the guitar riffing also showing an influence of thrash metal and a small amount of melody can also be heard in the riffs at time, as the album progresses keyboards are also utilized briefly on an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Mallus Spiritus are a very great sounding aggressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album.
