Razumikhin are a solo project from France that plays a very raw, atmospheric, progressive and symphonic form of post black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Self Made Monster" which will be released in September by WormHoleDeath Music.
Bass guitar leads start off the album along with some progressive yet heavy sounding riffing a few seconds later. Symphonic sounds are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs at times while the faster sections of the tracks also add in a lot of tremolo picking and blast b eats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When clear vocals are utilized they also give the music more of an avant garde touch along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic post metal style.
All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody. The music also has its atmospheric moments as well as one song also adding in a brief use of spoken vocals, a couple of the tracks are also instrumentals and all of the drum beats are programmed. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and real life themes.
In my opinion Razumikhin are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric, progressive and symphonic post black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pain For Breakfast" and "Gramaphone Mind". 8 out of 10.
