Posthum are a band from Norway that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a modern form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Like Wildfire" which was released by Indie Recordings.
Ambient style synths start off the album along with some clean guitars a few seconds later and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. During the faster sections of the music a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A decent amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the solos and leads also done in a very melodic style along with the music also mixing in elements of thrash and traditional metal.
A lot of the music has the classic Norwegian style but being done in more of a modern direction. Elements of ambient also make a return on some of the later tracks along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of groove at times as well as the music also having its progressive moments and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can also be heard and the album closes with an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover negativity, insanity and war themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Posthum and if you are a fan of Norwegian black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Ravens Are Flying Low" "Defenders of Purity" and "Unicorn Slaughterhouse". 8 out of 10.
