Lord Matzigkeitus are a solo project from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that plays a diverse form of depressive black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "From The Many Splintered Minds" which will be released on April 26th by Appalachian Noise Records.
Depressive cries and spoken word parts start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding synths a few seconds later. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls can also be heard.
Elements of blackened death metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the riffs also add in some dark sounding melodies. One of the tracks also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording as well as the vocals also bring in a great amount of depressive screams.
Melodic guitars can also be heard throughout the recording while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while some tracks also shows influences of black'nroll, thrash and doom metal and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars and melodic vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark, depressive and suicidal themes.
In my opinion Lord Matzigkeitus are a very great sounding diverse depressive black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unmarred In Dungeon Traverse" "Doctors" "Unbreathing Countdown To Suicide" and "It Talks Through Him". 8/5 out of 10.
