Isgalder are a band from Germany that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "The Red Wanderer" which will be released on April 27th by Naturmacht Productions.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album along with some clean pagan vocals a few seconds later and both of them also mix in with the heavier sections of the music at times. All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals also bring in a great amount of grim black metal screams.
During the faster sections of the music a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
At times the screams also have a depressive edge to them while one track also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length, as the album progresses a brief use of death metal growls can also be heard and some of the riffing also adds in a small amount of melody and the album closes with an almost 20 minute instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature, paganism, death and darkness themes.
In my opinion Isgalder are a very great sounding pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Funeral Fire" "Sirius Ablaze" and "Empire Of ice". 8 out of 10.
