Devoured By The Depths/Onward Unto Death/2022 EP Review

 

  Devoured  By  The  Depths  are  a  duo  form  Canada  that  plays  a  very  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  ep  "Onward  Unto  Death".

  Rain  sounds  and  clean  playing  start  off  the  ep  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  yet  depressive  sounding  black  emtal  screams  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  

  Devoured  By  The  Depths  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  depressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  emptiness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Devoured  By  The  Depths  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Illusions".  8  out  of  10.
