Withermoon are a band from Santa Anna, California that plays a very raw, old school and misanthropic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "A Testament To Our Will" which was released by Adirondack Black Mass.
A very dark yet distorted sound starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats which also gives the album more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some growls also being added into certain sections of the album, a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction.
Withermoon plays a style of black metal t hat is very raw, misanthropic and old school sounding in the second wave tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover misanthropy and nihilism themes.
In my opinion Withermoon are a very great sounding raw, old school and misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRQACKS INCLUDE "Reason For Existence" "Dregs of God" and "Testament To My Will". 8 out of 10.
