Greece's Thy Darkened Shade have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a progressive style of occult black metal and this is a review of their album "Liber Lvcifer II-Mahapralaya" which will be released in 2023 by W.T.C Productions.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. All of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also gets very dissonant sounding at times along with some clear chants and singing also being utilized on a few tracks..
Vocals are mostly grim yet angry sounding sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the tremolo picking in the faster riffing also giving the album more of a raw feeling when they are utilized,
A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its progressive moments. Angry sounding spoken word parts can also be heard at times as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very technical and melodic style when thy are introduced on the album, clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Luciferian, Satanism, Occultism, Qliphoth, Left Hand Path and Black Magick themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Thy Darkened Shade and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sacrosanct Pyre" "Qelippou Epiphany" and "Noxious Witchery Of The Titans". 8/6 out of 10.
