Aborym have returned with a new recording which shows them moving away from industrial black metal and going for more of a melodic and mainstream industrial rock/metal approach this time around and this is a review of their 2017 album "Shifting.negative" which was released by Agonia Records.
Industrial style synth start off the album along with some programmed beats a few seconds later and after awhile heavy guitars and clean vocals are added onto the recording while also mixing in with the electronic elements and the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic fashion.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and the music also gets very experimental at times and after awhile the vocals get somewhat aggressive while never getting anywhere to the rawness or heaviness of early material and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they also bring in session work from other well known industrial musicians.
Aborym moves away from the black metal style of previous releases while keeping around the industrial metal side and replacing the harshness with a more mainstream friendly sound, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophical and real life themes.
In my opinion this is a decent sounding recording from Aborym and while black metal fans might not like the new style as much I can see this finding a fan base among the more mainstream industrial rock/metal crowd. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unpleasantness" "Slipping Through the Cracks" "Tragedies For Sale" and "Big H'. 7 out of 10.
