Helgrindur are a band from Germany that plays a very epic form of pagan black metal with elements of death metal and this is a review of their self titled 2023 album which will be released in October by MDD Records.
A field recording orientated intro starts off the album along with some epic sounding keyboards and battle sounds before going into more of a heavier direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and the guitar riffing also add in a lot of melody.
Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while death metal growls and pagan style shouts can also be heard at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some blast beats and tremolo picking also being utilized when they music speeds up which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with some of the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, acoustic guitars can also b e heard on a couple of songs.
Helgrindur plays a style of pagan black metal that is very epic, aggressive and melodic sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover Paganism themes.
In my opinion Helgrindur are a very great sounding epic mixture of pagan black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Windmuehle" "Das Maedchen" "Helgrindur" and "Zur Ewigkeit". 8 out of 1-.
