Farawisa are a band from Austria that plays a heathen form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Frægð" which will be released in May by Naturmacht Productions.
A very dark, heavy yet epic sound starts off the album along with some synths a few seconds later. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and clean playing can also be heard on some of the songs.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while clean pagan style singing is also utilized at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melody and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When acoustic guitars are utilized they also add in touches of folk music along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the closing track also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Old Norse and cover Norse mythology, Paganism, The Viking Age and Old Icelandic Literature.
In my opinion Farawisa are a very great sounding heathen black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Baldrs draumar" and "Frægð". 8/6 out of 10.
