Frozen Wreath are a duo from Hungary that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Memento Mori" which was released by Filosofem Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the riffs also add in a lot of melody.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with some deep growls also being utilized at times which also adds in a touch of death metal. The music also brings in a lot of mid 90's era influences while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some some tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing. When spoken word parts are utilized briefly they also give the music more of a poetic atmosphere as well as the music also adding in a small amount of symphonic touches at times, melodic vocals can also be heard on a couple of songs. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are written in Hungarian and cover the finality of life.
In my opinion Frozen Wreath are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Halott ígéret" "A kőszikla megmarad" and "Fagyott koszorú". 8 out of 10.
