Nordgeist is a solo project from the Siberian region of Russia that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of her 2021 album "Frostwinter" which will be released on April 23rd by Kunsthall Produktionen.
Nature orientated soundscapes start off the album while the synths also gives the songs more of an atmospheric feeling and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music. During the faster sections of the tracks a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a good amount of melody as well as the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
The songs also add in a great amount of Nordic influences mixed in with a more modern style along with the nature orientated soundscapes also making a return on the later tracks. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the nature of the Siberian city of Bratsk.
In my opinion Nordgeist is a very great sounding black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Winter" and "Sorrow". 8 out of 10.
