Todesfall are a band from Serbia that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Nine Books Of Cosmic Antebellum" which was released by Depressive Illusions Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly grim yet angry sounding black metal screams. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats.
When spoken word parts are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling as well as all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, the riffs also add in a great amount of melody.
The music also adds in a good mixture of both modern and old school influences and when tremolo picking is finally utilized it also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with a later song also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Eastern Mysticism, Deathworship, Chaosophy, Gnosticism, Qabala, Alchemy and Ritualistic themes.
In my opinion Todesfall are a very great sounding melodic occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Holy Abruptum" "Emanations Of Blindfold Rituals" "King Of true Death" and "To The World of Ashes". 8/2 out of 10.
