Italy's Necrolust have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an esoteric and old school mixture of black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 ep "Abraxas".
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of brutal blast beats. Vocals also bring in a mixture of demonic yet bestial growls and black metal screams along with the music also being heavily rooted in the 90's and elements of thrash metal can also be heard in the riffing.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with some dark sounding melodies also being added into some of the riffing, when synths and spoken word parts are utilized they also give the recording more of a ritualistic feeling as well as the solos and leads being done in a very old school yet melodic style.
On this recording Necrolust expands on the death and thrash metal elements they introduced on previous releases and mixes it in with their old school style of occult black metal. The production sound s very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Luciferian, Occultism and Gnostic Demonology themes/
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Necrolust and if you are a fan of old school and occult black, death and thrash metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Son Of Abomination". 8 out of 10.
