Aterrima are a band from Boise, Idaho that plays an atmospheric and progressive mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "A Name Engraved In Cold Soil" which will b e released in December by Fiadh Productions,
Dark soundscapes and field recordings start off the album along with some distorted amp sounds a few seconds later before going into more of a heavier and progressive direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and the riffs also add in a good amount of melody.
Vocals bring in a mixture of clear singing, black metal screams and death emtal growls while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and the faster sections of the songs also add in some brutal sounding blast beats.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also getting very experimental sounding at times. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as a couple of tracks also being very long and epic in length and the album also has its atmospheric moments. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover humanity and the natural world.
In my opinion Aterrima are a very great sounding atmospheric, experimental and progressive mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Virga" "The Pall" and "Emulsion". 8 out of 10.
