Gynosko are a solo project form Sacramento, California that plays a very atmospheric and progressive from of black metal with elements of folk music and this is a review of his self released and self titled 2023 ep.
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some tin whistles and folk music elements also being utilized at times and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling along with some growls also being added into certain sections of the recording, when clean playing is utilized they also take the music into more of a progressive direction and the recording also has its atmospheric moments.
Gynosko plays a style of black metal that is very traditional, atmospheric and progressive sounding. The production sound s very dark and raw while the lyrics cover existential themes.
In my opinion Gynosko are a very great sounding atmospheric and progressive mixture of black and folk metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Of mead And Wells". 8 out of 10.
