Lost In Desolation are a duo from Australia that plays an atmospheric and depressive mixture of post black and doom metal with elements of electronica and this is a review of their 2023 album "Sere" which will be released on November 24 by Talheim Records.
Post rock style clean playing starts off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic doom metal direction. When keyboards are utilized they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling while the solos and leads also add in a lot of melody and the vocals are mostly death metal growls along with a few depressive black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while a good amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard when the music speeds up. Electronic music sounds and pianos can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length
Some of the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the music also adding in a lot of influences from the doom/death metal style of the 90's era. One track also introduces spoken word parts onto the album and a few tracks are also instrumentals which also adds in some orchestration. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover loss and grief themes.
In my opinion Lost In Desolation are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive mixture of post black and doom/death metal with elements of electronica and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Flesh From Bone" "Weak And Woeful" and "Unspoken". 8 out of 10.
