Grlock are a band from Florida that plays a horror orientated mixture of occult black and death metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 album "The Dim".
Demonic voices start off the album along with some horror movie orientated keyboards a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and clean singing can also be heard at times.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also b e heard while the vocals also add in a good mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams. Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and a couple of the tracks also adding in a small amount of female vocals.
Some of the songs are also very long and epic in length along with the tremolo picking in the faster riffing also giving the music more of a raw feeling when they are utilized. Some of the tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing as well as some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies and as the recording starts progressing you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover horror, suffering and occultism themes.
In my opinion Gorlock are a very great sounding horror orientated mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ornaments Of Scoria" "Through Shrouds Their Hearts Leak Songs" "Buried In Seasons Of Veins" and "The Dim". 8 out of 10.
