1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
Malignament was formed maybe around 2018, but the roots of couple songs are as far as 2009. It started as my solo project, but I can’t play drums so I asked if Grond was interested in a drummer's place, and he was. We play black metal in a traditional way, but also try to break the ”rules” and make something of our own in the process.
2.In September you have your first full length coming out, musically hoe does it differ from your previous demo?
Well the production is better and we used more time to create this album than our first demo, but it’s still very much the same entity.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
I think the lyrical scale is very large. There are songs about personal struggles and spiritual growth, songs about slavery, plagues, apocalypse, spite against humanity and fighting this modern world.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name ’Malignament'?
It is a combination of two words. ”Malign” and ”Sacrament”. I think it’s very self-explanatory.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
It represents this sleeping giant within humanity, that is now awakened and finds out that the only way to break the chains of mankind and its hypocritical ways is to sacrifice something very valuable and leave it behind.
6.The main person in the band is also involved with a few other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Malignament' that you are not able to do with your other groups?
Malignament is the only active band I play in. I’ve played in many bands and projects in the past, but that is not important. I started Malignament because this inner flame kept getting stronger and black metal seemed the proper way to spit out these thoughts.
7.So far this band has worked as either a solo project or duo, do you feel you are able to accomplish a lot more with your music with less people?
I’ve learned that working with many people in the band is sometimes very hard. Malignament is my own vision and I want to keep it that way.
8.So far very little is known about the musical project, do you prefer to keep a low profile?
Yes and no. We don’t want to reveal too much about ourselves. cluelessness is sometimes better, It gives you a chance to use your imagination. I’m not into keepin a ”low profile”, but I just hate this modern way, when all the bands and artists have to push their stuff in social medial all the fucking time. It disgusts me. I want to believe that music speaks for itself and people will find it, without making a social media ”update” every goddamn day.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
So far 100% positive. Nothing to add here.
10.What is going on with some of the other musical projects and bands these days that you a part of?
Nothing. Malignament is the only active project at the time.
11.Where do you see this project heading into musically during the future?
I’ve started writing new songs, but it will probably take 2-3 years before anything new will come out… but I can't be sure of that. We’re planning to play live at some point.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I listen to a lot of black metal, but also heavy metal and classic rock. Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and Polish black metal has always been my main influence.
13.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?
Of course, but in Malignament there is such a wide scale, so it can’t be defined as ”occult black metal” or anything like that. I read and study history very much.
14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
