Plage Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Plage was founded by Blizzard and Exord in early 2011. We knew each other already a couple of years and were connected by our shared disgust for all this shitty, soulless so-called black metal bands, which are called ‚scene‘ or whatever. So we just created some aggressive and obscure tunes to fuck them up their asses. Fortunately Zorn joined us on bass and Vrede took over the vocals. Both guys are longtime comrades of us and we already did a couple of tours across Europe with them – in other band constellations with BlackShore and Angantyr. Now Plage is stronger than ever and ready to humiliate and burn women and childern all over the world, because it’s in our goddamn responsibility to do so.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the demo you had released in 2013?

The style of DEN KRISTNE STANK is without compromises straight in your face. It’s old school black metal, but without being shitty or ridicolous. This is quiet mentionable. It’s just dark and obscure and ready to show stupid bands what kind of energy lives in true black metal. The style of DEN KRISTNE STANK doesn’t really differ from the demo we already released. It’s just as incredible brilliant as we always are. Hail to us!

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

The lyrics are written by Vrede and deal with his disgust and anger against christianity and christian people. Vrede is really pissed off and calls the ancient, heathen spirits to crush these motherfuckers. For example there was this girl - pregnant by a christian man. So of course Vrede had to punish her with his iron glove and then helped her with the abortion. Vrede is really into holding the hood clean.

4.On the demo all of the songs where written in your native language and on the new album while most of the songs are still written in that language you also added into a couple of songs in English, is this something that you plan on expanding more with in the future?

Even on the demo we mixed english, danish and low-german lyrics. There is no plan behind. It’s just caused by Vrede’s clouded brain. But we could imagine having the focus on the danish lyrics in future.

5.I know that the band names means 'plague', how does it fit in with the musical style that you play?

It’s a plague to play it and it’s an even bigger plague to listen to it, I guess.

6.One half of the band is from Denmark and the other half is from Germany, what kind of effect do you feel this has on your musical style?

The biggest effect on our music is, that we don’t rehearse as a full-band beside of live-gigs. But otherwise…no idea. I think we follow the same vision for Plage and it matters a shit where we come from.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Plage on stage is sickness on stage. Vrede always beats up some random people just to get the right mood for our show. It’s bloody, obscure and carries the stench of decomposition. We already had some great, violent shows like these...hard to pick one out.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Not yet. Maybe we gonna have a short tour in autumn, but that’s not for sure. We started writing new songs instead.

9.The new album was released on Alusia productions, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
It’s an Underground Extreme Metal Label focused on black and passionate art, located in Cologne. The Plage album is their first release, so we are honored to be part of the beginning of something big.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

We don’t really talk too much with people, but what we heard it was mostly enthusiastic towards our music.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?

They all kick ass of course. It’s good to be a part of this circle of great bands like BlackShore, Angantyr and Fyrnask.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We already did some new tracks and we still continue the same road of old school black metal. Fast and dark with obscure melodies. That’s the way our spirits wants us to do.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Black metal bands we like are Leviathan, Baptism, Thorns, Craft…stuff like that and many influences aside the genre.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Plage/Den Krstne Stank/Alusia Productions/2015 CD Review

Plage  are  a  band  with  members  from  both  Denmark  and  Germany  that  plays  a  very  archaic    form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Den  Krstne  Stank"  which  will  be  released  on  April  10th  by  Alusia  Productions.

Dark  sound  effects  start  off  the  album  giving  the  music  a  feeling  of  a  field  recording  along  with  some  bells  before  going  into  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  some  grim  screams  and  after  awhile  melodic  singing  and  chants  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  can  get  very  fast  at  times  and  add  in  blast  beats  that  are  very  skull  crushing.

Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  band  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  old  school  black  metal  elements  in  there  songs  at  times  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording,  most  of  the  songs  avoid  any  use  of  solos  and  leads  while  they  are  used  briefly  on one  of  the  tracks  and  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  and  there  is  also  one  track  towards  the  end  that  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  whole  album  avoids  any  use  of  soft  and  clean  parts  to  focus  more  on  a  raw  and  true  style  of  black  metal.

Plage  plays  a  style  of black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  grim  and  heavily  rooted  in  the  second  wave  sound  of  the  early  to  mid  90's,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Danish  and  English  and  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

In  my  opinion  Plage  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  archaic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Your  Gods  Fall"  "I  Am  Death"  and  "Himlen  til  Blods".  8  out  of  10.
