Celtefog/Δ​έ​λ​τ​α/2023 Full length Review

 

  Greece's  Celtefog  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Δ​έ​λ​τ​α".

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilzied  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  synths  also  adding  in  elements  of  ambient,  clear  pagan  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  battle  sounds,  spoken  word  parts  and  folk  instruments  are  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse,  Celtic  Paganism  and  Nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Celtefog  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Celt  In  The  Fog"  and  "Valfar,   Ein  Windir".  8  out  of  10.

Celtefog/Outlands/Der Schwarze Tod/2019 CD Review

  Greece's  solo  project  Celtefog  has  returned  with  a  new  album  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  ambient  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Outlands"  which  was  released  by  Der  Schwarze  Tod.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  also  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats. Folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  keyboards  when  they  are  utilized  also  add  in  some  elements  of  ambient.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard on  some  of  the  tracks  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals,  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  onto  the  recording  and  clean  male  vocals  are  also  used  on  the  closing  song. The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Celtic  Paganism,  Nature,  Darkness,  Revenge  and  Winter  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Celtefog  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  ambient  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  also  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  White  Fjord"  and  "To  the  Celtic  Lands".  8  out  of  10.

Celtefog/Sounds Of The Olden Days/2016 Full Length Review

  Celtefog  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays an  atmospheric  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self released  2016  album  "Sounds  Of  The  Olden  Days".

  Wind  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  making  their  presence  known  a  few  seconds  later  on  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  high  pitched  black  metal screams  are  added  into all  of  the  songs.

  You  can  hear  a  lot  of  folk  music  elements  in  the  bands  musical  style  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  they  also  add  in  some  flutes  and  tribal  beats  which  are  in  a  very  shamanistic  style  while  also  bringing  in  a  sound  close  to  the  middle  ages.

  Whispers  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  goes  fro  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  which  also  uses  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  te  fast  riffs  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  tremolo  picking  and  on  some  of  the  tracks  the  back  up  vocals  also  get  very  angry   and  deep  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  songs  also  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  their  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and melodic pagan  chants  present  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  they  also  bring  in  an  instrumental  before  closing  the  album  with  a  vocal  song.

  Celtefog  creates  another  pagan/black  metal  album  that  is  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  while  also  having  a  great  amount of  raw  aggression  to  them,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  yet  powerful  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  winter,  revenge  and  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Celtefog  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  pagan/black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Call  Of  The  Ancestors"  and  "Nykta".  8  out  of  10.

Celtefog/Three Nights In The Mediterranean Sea/Old Graves Productions/2015 EP Review

  Celtefog  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "Three  Nights  In  The  Mediterranean  Sea"  which  was  released  by  Old Graves  Productions.

  Nature sounds  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  a  few  seconds  ambient  sounds  are  added  onto  the  recording  which  also  leads  up  to  melodic  guitar  leads  and  blast  beats  that  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  introducing  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  both  of  the  songs  use  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  at  times  and  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  the  faster  sections  also  have  a  raw  edge  to  them  at  times  and  they  close  the  recording  with  a  cover  of  Windir's  "Svartesmeden  Og  Lundamystrollet"  which  also  brings  in  a  few  seconds  of  clean  singing  pagan  vocals.

  Celtefog  plays  a  style  of  pagan  metal  that  is  very  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sounding  as  well  as  displaying  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  on  both  of  the  tracks,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Nature,  Winter  and  Revenge  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Celtefog  are  a  very  great  sounding  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Three  Nights  In  The  Mediterranean  Sea".  8  out  of  10.
