Old Castles/Winterstorm/Everlasting Black Arts In Supreme Darkness/Inferna Profundus Records/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Chile's  Old  Castles  and  Ecuador's  Winterstorm  called  "Everlasting  Arts  In  Supreme  Darkness"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Old  Castles  a  duo  that  returns  with  their  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  more  a  dungeon  synth  before  instrumental  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  old  school  influences  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  qlipthoth,  mysticism,  paganism,  death  and  misanthropy  themes.

  Next  up  is  up  is  Winterstorm  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  and  melodic  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  good  amount  of  old  school  influences  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  instrumentals  and  clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  song.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  paganism,  mysticism,  death  and  misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Winterstorm  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Veil  of  The  Abyss".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal.

Winterstorm/Vinterstormener/Signal Rex/2021 CD Review

 

  Winterstorm  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Chile  and  Ecuador  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Vinterstormener"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Signal  Rex.

  A  dungeon  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal s creams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  era.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  deep  yet  demonic  sounding  growls  an d the  album  also  closes  with  a  synth  orientated  outro.

  On  this  re cording  Winterstorm  goes  for  more  of  a  raw,  lo-fi  and  occult  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism.  Darkness  and  Winter  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Winterstorm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Through  The  Astral  Mist"  and  "A  Distant  Wind  Horizon".  8  out  of  10.

Wampyric Rites/Satanic Count/Winterstorm/Demonic War/Night of Consecration/Humanity's Plague Productions/2021 4 Way Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  4  way  split  album  between  Ecuador's  Wampyric  Rites,  Satanic  Count,  Winterstorm  and  Demonic  War  called  "Night  Of  Consecration"  which  was  released  by  Humanity's  Plague  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Wampyric  Rites  a  band  that  has  had   music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  vampiric  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dungeon  synth  style  synths  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim y et  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Next  up  is  Satanic  Count  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in t he  90's  era.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  old  school  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Satanic  Count  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Humanity  Void".

  Next  up  is  Winterstorm  a  band  that  plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Next  up  is  Demonic  War  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  90's  influences.

  Clean  playing  and  nature  sounds  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and    leads  also  being  done  in  a  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  on  both  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Spanish  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Demonic  War  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Empty  Shelter".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  old  school,  raw,  satanic  and  vampiric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.
