Ezkaton are a band from Ukraine that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Sheen And Misery" which will be released in September by Ashen Dominion.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard on a few tracks. Vocals are mostly depressive sounding black metal screams while the music also mixes the heavy and atmospheric parts together along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of depressive sounding melodies along with acoustic guitars also making a return on some of the later tracks as well as some synths also being added into some parts of the music, as the album progresses they also bring in a cover of Coldworld's "Tortured by Solitude" and one of the later tracks is also an instrumental. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover downfall, misery, sadness and history themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ezkaton and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive black metal, you should check out this album.
