Behemoth/I, Scvlptor/Massacre Records/2026 EP Review

  Poland's  Behemoth  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  blackened  style  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  ep  "I,  Scvlptor"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  massacre  Records.

  A  very  dark y et  epic  orchestrated  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals a re  mostly  death  metal  growls  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  spoken  words  are  also  used  at  times.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  an  old  school  metal  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

   

 Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  the  screams  also  adding  in  elements  of  black  metal  when  they  are  utilized ,  angry  shouts  are  also  utilized  at  times and  they  also  bring  in  Venom  and  Bathory  covers  as  well  as  one  of  them  also  being  recorded  live.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Behemoth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lord  Ov  The  Horizons"  and  "Begotten".  8  out  of  10.

Behemoth/XXX Years Ov Blasphemy/Nuclear Blast Records/2024 Triple Live Album Review

 

  Poland's  Behemoth  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  displays  3  decades  of  their  black,  death  and  blackened  death  metal  material  in  a  concert  setting  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  triple  live  album  "XXX  Years  of  Blasphemy"  which  was  released  in  2024  by  Nuclear  Blast  Records.

  Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  screams.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  also  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  melodic  style.

  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  All  3  of  the  discs  are  divided  into  different  chapters  as  well  as  some  choirs  and  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  the  second  disc  sees  the  music  evolving  from  black  metal  to  blackened  death  metal.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  brutal  sounding  as  well  as  some  of  the  more  orchestrated  sections  of  certain  tracks  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  classical  music  and  the  more  current  material  brings  in  more  modern  death  metal  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  Paganism,  Thelema,  Satanism,  Occultism,  Left  Hand  Path  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Behemoth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  triple  live  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUD E "Lasy  Pomorza" "Pure  Evil  And  Hate"  "Christians  To  The  Lions"  and  "O  Father  o  Satan  O  Sun!".  8  out  of  10.

Behemoth/Grom/Metal Blade Records/2023 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Behemoth  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  the  zine  and  on  this  recording  played  more  of  an  atmospheric  style  of  pagan  black  metal  which  is  a  lot  more  different  then  the  blackened  death  metal  style  that  they  got  more  well  known  for  in t he  past  2  decades  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1996  album  "Grom"  which  was  re-issued  in  2023  by  Metal  Blade  Records  and  also  consists  of  rehearsal  and live  songs  as  bonus  tracks  that  where  not  included  on  the  original  version.

  Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  all  of  the  musical,  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   Clear   male  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Angry  shouts  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times,  they  also  bring  in some  Mayhem,  Destruction  and  Kat  covers  and  the  rehearsal's  also  have  a  more  rawer  sound  than  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  and  Baltic  Paganism  and  the  songwriting  brings  in  a  mixture  of  both  the  English  and  Polish  languages.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Behemoth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  90's  era  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Dark  Forest  (Cast  me  Your  Spell)"  "Lasy   Pomorza"  and  "Grom".  8/5  out  of  10.

Behemoth/From The Pagan Vastlands/Pagan Records/Wild Rags Records/1994 CD Review

  Behemoth are a band from Poland that is more known for their occult black/death metal sound that is popular nowadays but on this release they played a very raw and atmospheric from of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 1994 album "From The Pagan Vastlands" which was released as joint effort between Pagan Records and Wild Rag Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats, while the keyboards have a very dark and atmospheric sound to them, as for the bass playing it is kind of mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times you can hear them.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw black metal riffs that are also melodic at times while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very melodic sounding guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they sound very dark and medieval.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched and grim black metal screams with some spoken word passages being used on one song, while the lyrics cover Paganism, Occultism, and Anti Christianity, as for the production it has a very dark and raw sound to it.

In my opinion this was a great album from Behemoth and if you are interested in hearing their more raw sounding pagan/black metal beginnings, you should check this album  out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Summoning (Of The Ancient Ones)" "The Dance Of The Pagan Flames" and "Fields Of Haar-Meggido". RECOMMENDED BUY.
