Kyrios/Blood Constellation/Caligari Records/2026 EP Review

  Kyrios  are  a  band  from  new  York  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  dissonant  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  dungeon  synth  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  ep  "Blood  Constellation"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Caligari  Records.

  A  dungeon  synth  orientated instrumental  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  and  keyboards  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

  At  times  the  music  gets  very  dissonant  sounding  while  the  faster  sections  of  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  technical  style  along  with  the  ep  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Kyrios  takes  a  very  atmospheric  and  dissonant  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  technical  death  metal  and  dungeon  synths  to  create  something  very  different  from  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kyrios  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black, death  metal  and  dungeon  synth,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "A  Highborn  Sacrifice".  8  out  of  10.

Kyrios/Saturnal Chambers/Caligari Records/2020 EP Review

 

  Kyrios  are  a  band  from  New  York  that  plays  a  very  dissonant  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Saturnal Chambers"which  will  be  released  on  cassette  in  October  by  Caligari  Records.

  a  very  dark,  heavy,  melodic  and  dissonant  sound  starts  off  the  while  the  synths  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  avant  garde  edge.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  emtal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  while  also  adding  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  one  song  also  being  a  horror orientated  instrumental.

  Kyrios  plays a  style  of  black  metal  that takes  the  old  school  style  of  the  90's  while  also mixing  it  with  a  more  modern  avant  garde  and  dissonant  style  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  ancient  ruins,  dark  age  mysteries  and  abstract  horrors.

  In  my  opinion  Kyrios  are  a  very  great  sounding  dissonant  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "A  Mare  in  The  Wire".  8  out  of  10.
