Ofermod/Drakosophia/Shadow/Regain Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Sweden's  Ofermod  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  orthodox  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Drakosophia"  which  will  be  released  in  Cctober  as  a  joint  effort  between  Shadow  and  Regain  Records.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  Swedish  era  as  well  as  the  recording  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  elements. 

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  clear  vocals  also  being  utilized  at  times,  synths  are  also  added  into  the  background  on  a  few  tracks. 

  On  this  recording  Ofermod  continues  the  expand  on  the  orthodox  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Theistic  Satanism,  Left  Hand  Path,  Enochian  and  the  Draconian  Current.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ofermod  and  if  you  are  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vinyards  Of  Gomorrah"  "Zazas  Zazas  Nasatanaada  Zazas"  "Nox  Draconis"  and  "The  Painful  Movers".  8  out  of  10.

Ofermod/Acherontas/Black Altar/Drakonian Elitism/Odium Records/2023 3 Way Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Sweden's  Ofermod,  Greece's  Acherontas  and  Poland's  Black  Altar  called  "Drakonian  Elitism"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Odium  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ofermod  who  return  with  their  orthodox  style  of  occult  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  ritualistic  soundscapes,  synths, choirs  and  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.\

  Vocals  are mostly  grim  yet  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  showing  an  influence  of  death  metal,  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  The  Drakonian  Current,  Demonology  and  the  Left  Hand  Path.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Ofermod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  orthodox  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Agios  Ischyros  Belial".

  Next  up  is  Black  Altar  who  return  with  an  orthodox  and  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  ritualistic  sounding  synths  and  bells  along  with  some  choirs  and  clear  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  their  side  of  the  recording  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  song.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  more  of  a  melodic  style   The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Draskonian  Current  and  Sitra  Achra  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Altar  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  oracle  of  Divine  madness".

  Closing  the  split  is  Acherontas  who  return  with  their  occult style  of  black  metal,

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy ,  dark  and  melodic  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  split  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  second  track  also  going  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  and  experimental  direction  which  also  adds  in  spoken  word  poarts  and  chant.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Drakonian  Current  and  Magick  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Acherontas  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Intra  Psyche".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  black  metal.  8/5  out  of  10.

Ofermod/Ofermodian Litanies/Shadow Records/Regain Records/2022 EP Review

 

  Sweden's  Ofermod  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  occult  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Ofermodian  Litanies"  which  will  be  released  in  November  as  a  joint  effort  between  Shadow  and  Regain  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  death  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  Swedish  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  grim  shouting  approach  at  times  and  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Ofermod  remains  true  to  the  occult  black  metal  style  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  Th e production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Luciferian,  Left  Hand  Path,  Occultism  and  Mesopotamian  Magick  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ofermod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Luitany  Of  The  Lascivious  Lucifuga"  and  "Chaos  Reverberation".  8  out  of  10.

  Sweden's  Ofermod  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  occult  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Mysterium  Iniquitatis"  which  will  be  released  in  December  as  a  joint  effort  between  Shadow  and  Regain  Records.

  Stringed  instruments  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  some  blast beats  also  being  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  death  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  choirs  and  clean  vocals  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of t he  album.

Ofermod/Pentagrammaton/Shadow Records/Regain Records/2020 CD Review

  Ofermod  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  orthodox  and  occult  form  of  black/death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Pentagrammation"  which  was  originally  recorded  in  2005  and  was  unreleased  and  shelved  and  will  finally  be  released  in  June  of  2020  as  a  joint  effort  between  Shadow  and  Regain  Records.

 A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  Swedish  style.  Elements  of  death  metal  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  tradition,  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Ofermod  played  a  style  of   occult  black  metal  that  was  very  raw and  melodic  in  the  Swedish  tradition  as  well  as  adding  in  some  of  the  more  darker  side  of  the  death  metal  genre  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Qliphotic,  Sumerian  Magick,  Luciferianism  and  Chaos  Gnostic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ofermod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  orthodox  and  occult  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tiamatu"  "The  Becoming  Of  Pentagrammaton"  and  "A  Likeness  To  Yah".  8/5  out  of  10.

Ofermod/Tiamtu/AjnaOffense/2008

  Ofermod are a 2 piece band hailing from Sweden and I would describe their music as Orthodox Religious black/death metal and this is a review of their newest release "Tiamtu".

Drums on this recording are mostly slow drum beats that give the music a dark and deadly edge and there are some occasional fast parts that utilize some very harsh blast beats, while the bass playing is really dark sounding in the mix and utilizes a lot of rhythm and a decent measure of slow and fast riffs.

Guitars are mostly rhythms that are very slow sounding and has a very melodic tone with some fast riffs that are very menacing and there was not many guitar leads and on the last song there was an intro that utilized a classical guitar, while the vocals are in the vein of early 90's Swedish black metal and they are a mixture of high and low pitched screams with some occasional clean singing.

Production on this cd which was recorded at Endarker Studio during the months of April and May in the year of 2008 sounds very professional and you can hear all of the music instruments as well as the vocals.

Lyrics on this album are written about a variety of different occult topics from the Sumerian gods and goddesses, the darker side of the Hebrew Cabbala, Egyptian philosophies,Aliester Crowley and this is probably the most intelligent lyrics I have ever seen on the Left Hand Path on a black metal cd and I have been looking for this in a long time as a follower of the LHP myself.

In my opinion this a great cd one of the best releases from the year of 2008 and I would like to get there older albums and I look forward to newer material, I am never let down when a hear black metal albums from the Ajna offensive and Norma Evangelium Diaboli who both worked together to put out this unholy masterpiece. If you are a fan of 90's era Swedish black metal with a more Left Hand approach pick up this album you will not be disappointed. Standout tracksinclude "Pralayic Withdrawl" and "Eu Angelion". HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
