Caina/Cara Neir/Broken Limbs/2017 Split 7 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  United  Kingdom's  Caina  and  Texas's  Cara  Neir  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Broken  Limbs  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Caina  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  post  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  melodic  guitar  riffing  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  descent  amount  of  melody  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  along  with  a  more  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  few  growls  and  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  being  6  minutes  in  length  and  also  mixing  in  elements  of  post  metal  and  a  brief  use  of  atmospheric  synths,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  literary,  human  nature  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Caina  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Cara  Neir  another  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  crust.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  avery  heavy  and  melodic  sound  where  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  split  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  a  more  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim y et  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  elements  of  crust  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  a brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the lyrics cover  dark  and  apocalyptic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Cara  Neir  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  crust  influenced  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  post  black  metal  and  blackened  crust.  8  out  of  10.

Caina/Christ Clad In White Phosphorus/Apocalyptic Witchcraft/2016 Full Length Review

  Caina  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  that  takes  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  dark  ambient  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Christ  Clad  In  White  Phosphorus"  which  was  released  by  Apocalyptic  Witchcraft.

  Radio  static  sounds  start  off  the  album  and  you  can  also  hear  telephones  ringing  in  the  background  and  after  the  intro  the  music  gets  heavy  and goes for more  of  a  raw  black  metal  style  that  utilizes  tremolo  picking  and blast  beats  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  the  riffs  also bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  songs also bring  in  a  great  amount  of  industrial  beats  while also  focusing  more  on  a  modern black  metal  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  dark  ambient  soundscapes  along  with  field  recordings  can be  heard  in  some  songs.

  After the  music  gets  more  experimental  and  avant  garde  while  some  of  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  atmospheric  touches  and  melodic guitar  leads  can  be  heard  at  times  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  while  some  of t he  slow  riffs  show influences  of  doom  metal  and  sludge  and  when  clean  singing  is used  for  few  seconds  it  sounds  very  out  of  key  while  showing  some  talent  on   later  song  and  displaying  more  of  a  goth  style  and  a couple  of t he  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Caina  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  raw  and  atmospheric  styles  of  black metal  while  also  standing  out  a  bit  more  with  the  experimental,  industrial  and  dark  ambient  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  apocalyptic,  dystopian  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  with  elements  of  industrial,  experimental  and  dark  ambient,  you should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Torture  Geometry"  "Gazing On  The  Quantum  Megalith"  "Pillars  of  Salt"  and  "Christ  Clad  In  White  Phosphorus".  8  out  of  10.

Caina/Setter Of Unseen Snares/Broken Limb Recordings/2015 CD Review

  Caina  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  punk,  hardcore  and  d-beat  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Setter  Of  Unseen  Snares"  which  will  be  released  in  2015  by  Broken  Limb  Recordings.

  Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounds  in  the  background  which  leads  up  to  a  heavier  guitar  sound  along  with  a  few  melodic  chants  which  are  also  used  again  on  one  of  the  later  tracks  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  for  more  of  a  raw  post  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  grim  screams  and  you  can  hear  a  lot  of  d-beat  structures  and  melody  in  the  songs.

  At  times  the  music  bring s in  the  energy  of  hardcore  punk  rock  as  well  as  adding  clean  playing  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  in  some  of  the  faster  sections  a  decent  amount  of  blast  bears  are  brought  in  which  also  adds  even  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  sound  to  the  bands  musical  style  an d the  last  track  is  over  15  minutes  in  length  and  shows  a  more  experimental  side  to  the  bands  musical  sound  along  with  some  elements  of  ambient  being  incorporated  into  the  song  along  with  a  heavy  doom  metal  influence  and  clean  singing  vocals.  

  As  the  album   progresses  the  band  starts  bringing  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  distorted  yet  melodic  guitar  leads  being  utilized  at  times  along  with  some  of  the  90's  atmospheric  black  metal  sound  being  added  into  the  song  structures  which  also  makes  the  music  sound  more  dark  and  grim.

  Caina  take s the  raw,  atmospheric  and  post  black  metal  genres  and  adds  in  the  energy  of  d-beat,  hardcore  and  punk  along  with  a  great  amount  of  melody  to  create  a  very  aggressive  and  dark  sounding  recording,  the  production  sound s very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Literary,  Human  Nature  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Caina  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  atmospheric  post  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  hardcore,  punk  and  d-beat  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Am  The  Flail  Of  The  Lord"  and  "Applicant/Supplicant".  8  out  of  10.
