Sun Worship/Upon The Hills Of Divination/Vendetta Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  Sun  Worship  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Upon  The  Hills  of  Divination"  which  was  released  by  Vendetta  Records.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls mixed  in  with  a  few  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  clear  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  most  of  the  album  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era.

  On  this  recording  Sun  Worship  moves  away  from  the  cascadian  influenced  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  goes  for  a  very  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  space,  cosmos,  science  and  astrophysics.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sun  Worship  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Within  The  machine"  and  "Stormbringer".  8  out  of  10.

Sun Worship/Pale Dawn/Golden Antenna Records/2016 CD Review

  Sun  Worship  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in this  zine  and  plays  a  cascadian  influenced  form  of  atmospheric  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Pale  Dawn"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Golden  Antenna  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  start  out  with  a  more  of  a  chanting  style  and  you  can  also  hear    great  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  after  awhile  the  songs  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  the  vocals  start  getting  more  aggressive  while  being  somewhat  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix  and  as  the  album  progresses  they  evolve  more  into  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  more  of  a  raw  yet  melodic  style  to  the  songs  they  are  utilized  on  and  the  whole  album  also  remains  very  dark  and  heavy  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  while  clean  singing  is  used  briefly  on  the  last  track.

  Sun  Worship  creates  another  recording  that  is  still  influenced  by  the  atmospheric  and  cascadian  styles  of  black  metal  while  also  having  more  of  a  raw  and  heavy  approach  to  the  genre  that  is  very  guitar  driven,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  nature  themes  along  with  some  songs  being  written  in  German.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sun  Worship  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  more  raw,  atmospheric  and  cascadian  styles  of  black  metal,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pale  Dawn"  and  "Perihilion".  8  out  of  10.

Sun Worship/Elder Giants/2014 Cassette Review

  Sun  Worship  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  cascadian  style  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  cassette  "Elder  Giants".

  The  cassette  starts  out  with  nature  sounds  and  drones  before  going  into  a  more  raw  black  metal  direction  as  well  as  getting  faster  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  which  also  use  grim  and  depressive  elements  and  you  can  also  hear  post  black  metal  traces  in  the  recording  but  they  are  done  in  a  more  aggressive  manner  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  The  band  continues  this  approach  throughout  the  recording  while  also  bringing  in  more  atmospheric  and  cascadian  black  metal  elements  and  they  also  bring  melody  into  the  music  in  certain  parts  of  the  recording  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  doom  metal  influences  being  utilized  briefly  and  on  the  last  song  they  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  harsh  noise  sounds  as  well  as  a  good  amount  of  synths  and  the  last  track  is  all  instrumental  and  also  has  a  more  dark  and  epic  ambient  sound  to  it.

  With  this  recording  Sun  Worship  continue  their  fast  and  raw  approach  to  the  cascadian and  atmospheric  forms  of  black  metal  and  they  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  aggression  to  their  music  and  stay  away  from  the  post  and  shoegaze  influences  some  of  the  newer  bands  and  this  really  shows  in  the  songs  while  they  still  have  a  good  amount  of  diversity  to  them.

  Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  metaphysical  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  along  with  the  bass  guitars  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix  as  well  as  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sun  Worship  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  fast  atmospheric/cascadian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "We  Sleep"  and  "Elder  Giants".  8/5  out  of  10.

Sun Worship/Surpass Eclipse/2013 EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Sun  Worship  which  continues  their  raw  and  primitive  hybrid  of  atmospheric  and  Cascadian  style  black  metal  with  the  ep  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Surpass  Eclipse".

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very heavy,  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  combining  old  school,  atmospheric  and  Cascadian  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  with  some  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  being  utilized  on  the  last  song,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  raw  and  primitive  sounding  melodic  black  metal  guitar  leads.

  Vocals  are  all  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  eclipse  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  last  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sun  Worship  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  with  Cascadian  elements,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Eclipse".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

  Sun  Worship  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  atmospheric  and  Cascadian  style  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  and  self  released  demo  which  was  released  in  2011.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  In  my  opinion  Sun  Worship  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  atmospheric  and  Cascadian  style  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Photon".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
