1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
We did two album release shows(Quebec city and Trois-Rivières) followed by 6 shows in Quebec's province and Ontario during May. Right now we are already working on the next album.
2.You released your new album in the month of March, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you had released in the past?
Beyond Mankind is very different of every other past releases. In fact, every Ordoxe releases are very different! Beyond Mankind is more musical and melodic, but still with the hate and the fury of Nihil. It's also the the best production we've done so far.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new album?
J-F Jalbert have a strong interest for astronomy and ancients civilizations, It influenced him a lot for the writing of the last album. "Orion Nebula", as example can give you a good idea.
4.The band has been around in some form or another since 1989 but waited until 2006 to release to first album can you tell us a little bit more about the hiatus the band took in the 90's and also the decision to reform?
In 1990 Ordoxe became Slaotvean and it stay the principal project of J-F Jalbert until Slaotvean's split off in 2011. He reactivate Ordoxe as solo-project from 2006 to 2007 to record alone two albums(Sorrick Ked Tho and Magnum Opus). He took the decision to reform again Ordoxe in 2012 when he had the opportunity to tour South America. And then he ask me, Steve and Sam to join to have a complete line-up.
5.On 1990 you had a demo with this band, what was the musical direction like in the beginning?
It was a lot more death-thrash oriented, Ordoxe at this time was a high-school band. It's only when the band became Slaotvean that black-metal influences arrived.
6.According to the Metal Archives page there was also a split between 2007 to 2012, can you tell us a little bit more about what was going on during those years?
As I explained before, from 1993 to 2011 Slaotvean was the priority of J-F Jalbert. During the 2007-2011 period, he released few albums and toured a lot with them.
7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Most of the South American tour last year was totally awesome! I remember city like Viedma, Cordoba and Villa Mercedes who was totally insane. People are very different (in fact EVERYTHING is different!). About our stage performance, we give the best we can every night and we stay the most professional as possible.
8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We finished our "week-end tour" of 6 shows in May and it was very cool to play in cities where we played long time ago. We saw many old friends! Most of these shows we played was with our fellows label mates Haeres.
9.The new album was released on Hymnes d'AntAn , can you tell us a little bit more about this record label?
Hymnes d'AntAn is a label led by our friend Keven from Chasse-Galerie and Forteresse. He started the label few years ago, and released albums of bands from Quebec and France. He works hard to push the bands of his label internationally. (www.hymnesdantan.com)
10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
In South America the reaction was very good. When we released our first video "À travers ses yeux", we been surprised to see to good reactions from countries like Russia, Czech Republic etc. Worldwide, things looks promising for the future.
11.What is going on with the other musical projects these days that some of the band members are involved with?
For myself I don't have other musical project for the moment. J-F Jalbert work sometimes on his doom-metal project called Silent Cries, Steve our drummer is involved in rock/metal band called The Authority and just left a metalcore band named Hopeless Nation. About Sam, he still have his thrash-metal project Horfixion but I don't think he work very hard on it since he is a member of Ordoxe.
12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
The new songs are more catchy and are more rock-oriented. Maybe a little bit less black-metal but you'll still recognize the raw side of Ordoxe! We are not that kind of band who release the same album few times under different names.
13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Since the beginning Darkthrone have been a major influence. Others black-metal bands like Enthroned or Rotting Christ have to be mentioned but many other bands of many other genres influences us.
14.What are some of your non musical interests?
As a typical guy born in Quebec, hockey is since the begining of my life one of my bigger interest. I still playing every week. As says before, J-F Jalbert is a lot interested by astronomy, he can spend nights long watching it. Sam is interested by everything about computer, and Steve is interested by only 3 things : sex drug and rock N roll!!!
