Todesstoss are a solo project from Germany that plays a very raw, experimental and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Das Liebweh-Dekret" which was released in July by I, Voidhanger Records.
A very fast and r aw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive sounding black metal screams and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clear singing can also be heard at times along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
One some of the tracks the music also goes into more of an experimental and avant garde direction along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as some programmed beats and spoken word parts also being utilized briefly and as the album progresses synths, growls and female vocals are also introduced into the music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover atrocities, physical and mental discomforts.
In my opinion Todesstoss are a very great sounding raw, depressive and experimental black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Antirobotid" and "Ghulismus". 8 out of 10.
