KZOHH/26/Ashen Dominion/2018 CD Review

Ukraine's  KZOHH  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  'pestilent  black  metal  ritual'  sound  of  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "26"  which  will  be  released  on  April  26th  by  Ashen  Dominion.

Nature  sounds  along  with  some  voices  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  tragic  sounding  keyboards  and  avant  garde  samples  a  few  seconds  later  while  spoken  word  and  am  radio  samples  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  after  awhile  clean  playing  is  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording.

Both  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  at  times  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  mixing  it  in  with  heavier  parts  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  ambient  and  industrial  elements.

Distorted  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  while  the  clean  singing  gives  the  music  more  of  an  avant  garde  edge  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  also  gives  the  song  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  second  track  also  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  you  can  also  hear  a  small  amount  of  ethnic  music  elements.

On  this  recording  KZOHH  gets  more  experimental  and  avant  garde  while  still  having  some  elements  of  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Chernobyl  Disaster  and  the  Nine  Mansi  hunters  and  their  deaths  in  1959.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  KZOHH  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  avant  garde  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "61°45'17"N,59°27'46"E".  8  out  of  10.

KZOHH/Trilogy: Burn Out The Remains/Ashen Dominion/2016 CD Review

KZOHH  are  a  band f rom  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  they  describe  as  being  a  'pestilent  black  metal  ritual'  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Trilogy:  Burn  out  the  Remains"  which  will  be  released  on  September  30th  by  Ashen  Dominion.

Water  sounds  and  atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  spoken  word  parts  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  Gregorian  chants  as  well  as  some  ritualistic  beats  and  after  awhile  acoustic  guitars  are  added  onto the  recording  and  the  vocals also  get  more  black  metal  orientated  while  also  mixing  in  a  melodic  edge.

All  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  after  awhile  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  and  heavy  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  and  they  also  mix  in  epic  sounding  keyboards  into  the  heavier  sections  of the  tracks  along  with  some  orchestra  elements.

The  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  in  some  parts  of  the recording  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  the  last  track  brings  in  war  samples  and  all  3  of  the  songs  sound  very  different  from  each  other..

KZOHH  on  this  recording  takes  their  black  metal roots  and  gets  a  little  bit  more  experimental  and  avant  garde  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  Great  Pandemics.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  KZOHH  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Crom  Conail".  8  out  of  10.

KZOHH/Rye.Fleas.Chrismon./No Colours Records/2015 CD Review

KZOHH  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  both  Russia  and  Ukraine  that  play  an  experimental  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Rye.Fleas.Chrismon."  which  was  released  by  No  Colours  Records.

Nature  sounds  and  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some people  samples  and  elements  of  folk  music  and  melodic  chants  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  on  the  second  track  the  music starts  getting  a  lot  more  darker  and  experimental  which  also  leads  up  to  more  of  a  fast  and  atmospheric  black  metal  direction.

Blast  beats  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  during  the  fast  sections  and  when  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  very  aggressive  and  have  an  industrial  feeling  to  them  while  also  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  they  also  mix in  a  good  amount  of  spoken  word  samples  and  grim  vocals.

Throughout the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  also  mix  the  synths  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  song  utilize  a  doom  metal  influence  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain sections  of  the  recording  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  some  of  the  vocals  also  bring  in  elements  of  depressive  black  metal  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  an d  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  the music  starts  getting  more  experimental  and  avant  garde.

KZOHH  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  atmospheric black  metal  and  create  their  own  style  by  mixing  in  elements  of  doom  metal,  dark  ambient,  experimental  and  avant  gard  to  create  an  original  sound,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  death,  darkness  and  historical  themes.

In  my  opinion  KZOHH  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Alousia  et  Pestilentia  Ignearia"  "Un  Drapeau  Noir  Sur  L'egalise"  and  "Ghosts  Of  Melcombe  Regis".  8  out  of  10.
