Black Pestilence/Chaotic Wisdom/2023 Full length Review

 

  Calgary,  Alberta,  Canada's  Black  Pestilence  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  noise  and  punk  influenced  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Chaotic  Wisdom"  which  will b e  released  in  September.

  A  very  dark,  distorted  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  noises  can  also b e  heard  in  certain  sections  of t he  recording.  Elements  of  punk  rock  can  also b e  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  tracks  along  with  all  of t he  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  vocals  are mostly  black  metal  screams.  

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  touches  of  black'n'roll,  keyboards  and  elctronic  sounds  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  back  up  shouts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  On  this  recording  Black  Pestilence  remains  true  to  the  punk  and  noise  influenced  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Laveyan  Satanism,  Current  Events,  Social  Issues  and The  Glorification  Of  The  Epicurean  Lifestyle. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Pestilence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  punk  and  noise  influenced  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Life  of  Evil"  "Aspects  Of  Darkness"  and  "Animus".  8  out  of  10.

Black Pestilence/Hail The Flesh/2020 CD Review

  Alberta,  Canada's  Black  Pestilence  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  punk  and  noise  influenced  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2020  "Hail  The  Flesh"  which  will  be  released  in  May.

  A  very  heavy  yet  punk  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  emtal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  while  a  small  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Back  up  shouts  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  along  with  some  elements  of  noise  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  demonic  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Social  Issues  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Pestilence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  with  elements  of  punk  and  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hail  The  Flesh"  "True  To  The  Dark"  "Frauds  To  The  Throne"  and  "Ephemeral".  8  out  of  10.

Black Pestilence/Urban Hell Rhythmics/2018 Full Length Review

  Alberta,  Canada's  Black  Pestilence  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  punk  and  noise  influenced  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2018  album  "Urban  Hell  Rhythmics".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  elements  of  punk  and  d  beat  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  few  growls  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  on  some  tracks  the  bass  guitars  also  take  over  as  a  lead  instrument  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  noise  and a   brief  use  of  samples.

  On  this  recording  Black  Pestilence  remains  true  to  their  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Social  Issue  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Pestilence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "D.I.Y  666"  "Back  To  The  Underground"  "Devil  Of  my  Life"  and  "Countess  Of  Dominion".  8  out  of  10.

Black Pestilence/Carry On The Black Flame/2016 EP Review

  Black  Pestilence  are  a  band  from  Alberta,  Canada  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  noise  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "Carry  On  the  Black  Flame".

  A  dark  lo-fi  atmosphere  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  crust  punk  direction  where  you  can  also  hear  all  of the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  once  the  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  the  music  starts  mixing  in  with  more  of  a  raw  style  of  that  genre  along  with  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  back  up  shouts  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  add  in  elements  of  thrash  and  traditional  punk  along  with  a  brief  chorus  that  almost  close  to the  pop  side  of  the  genre  while  the  music  remains  raw  and  heavy  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  melodic  fashion  and  as  the ep  progresses  a  brief  use  of  noise  sounds  can  be  heard  and  the  music  also  remains  heavy  and  raw  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Black  Pestilence  creates  another  recording  that  takes  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  punk  and  a  touch  of  noise  to  create  a  style  that  some  might  consider  as  being  blackened  punk,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Social  Issue  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Pestilence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  punk  influenced  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Demon  Cathedral"  and  "Rise  For  Satan".  8  out  of  10.

Black Pestilence/Outsiders/2015 CD Review

  Black  Pestilence  are  a  band  from  Calgary,  Alberta,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of   black  metal  mixed   in  with  some  punk  and  noise  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  "Outsiders".

  Ambulance  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  punk  style  bass  guitars  and  drums  which  leads  up  to  more  of  a  fast,  raw  and  crusty  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  the  music  also  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  back  up  gang  shouts  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  touch  of  war  metal  at  times.

  You  can  hear  a  lot  of  punk  influences  throughout  the  recording  and  some  of  the  songs  also  incorporate  a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  and  death  metal  growls  and  as  the  album  progresses  synths  and  samples  along  with  some  noise  elements  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  bringing  in  more  melody  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  a  very  melodic  direction.

  Black  Pestilence  plays  a musical  style  that  takes  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  punk  rock  to  create  their  own  musical  style,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Social  Issues.

  In  my  opinion  Black  Pestilence  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cult  Class"  "Horns  For  The  Devil"  and  "Voiceless Generation".  8  out  of  10.
