Prezir/Beastlurker/Faustian Hallucinations/Chaos Records/2022 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  U.S.A's  Prezir  and  Beastlurker  called  "Faustian  Hallucinations"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Chaos  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Prezir  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  before  going  into a  faster  thrash  metal  influenced  direction  which  also  utilizes  a   great  amount  of  blast beats.  Vocals  ar e mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also bringing  in  more  of  an old  school  extreme  metal  style  as  well  as  having  their  melodic  moments,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  they  also  add  in  more  of a   raw  feeling  and  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dogmatism  and  corruptive  ideologies. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Prezir  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Murder  At  The  Helm".

  Next  up  is  Beastlurker  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.

     Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal s creams  a  few  seconds  later.  Both  of  their  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  ad d in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  and  the  tracks  also  ad d in a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clean  playing and  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  fast  tremolo  picking  also  takes  the  music  into  more  of  a  rawer  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  personal  demons  lurking in  with  the  psyche.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Beastlurker  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  emtal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Quills  of  A  Faustian  Meditation".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of b lack  and  death  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Prezir/Depredation/Dread Records/2020 Full Length Review

 

  Milwaukee,  Wisconsin's  Prezir  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Depredation"  which  was  released  by  Dread  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  heavy  thrash  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  old  school  style  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  the  guitar  riffing.  All  of the musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music.

  At  times  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  very  melodic  and  traditional  approach  to  metal  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Religion,  Philosophy  and  History  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Prezir  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  melodic  and  old  school black  metal  with  some  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sacrificed,  The  Honoured  Dead"  "Terrors  Of  the  Steppe"  and  "Peasentry  Messiah".  8  out  of  10.

Prezir/As Rats Devour Lions/Godz Of War Productions/2018 CD Review

  Prezir  are  a  band  from  Milwaukee,  Wisconsin  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "As  Rats  Devour  Lions"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Godz  Of  War  productions.

  A  very  heavy,  fast  and  old  school  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  vocals  beign  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  tremolo  picking  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy.

  On  this  recording  Prezir  expands  on  their  black  metal  style  by  adding  in  more  fast  riffing,  melody,  death  and  thrash  metal  influences  to  take  their  own  to  another  level,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Alchemy,  Egyptian  Mythology,  Philosophy,  Contempt  and  Historical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Prezir  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast  and  melodic  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As  Rats  Devour  Lions"  "Serpents  in  The  House  Of  Ra"  and  "Oedipus  Context".  8  out  of  10.

Prezir/Contempt/2017 EP Review

  Prezir  are  a  band  from  Milwaukee,  Wisconsin  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  ep  Contempt".

  Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  classical  guitars  in  the  background  which  also  get  more  powerful  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  few  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  and  elements of  thrash  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  tracks  and  one  track  also brings  in  melodic  chants.

  Prezir  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  old  school  and  melodic  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  blasphemy  towards  the  Islamic  and  Christian  religions  along  with  some  Aztec  and  Egyptian  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Prezir  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  band  with  touches  of  death  and thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'Holy  Men  Of  Putridity"  and  "Serpents  In  The  House  Of  Ra".  8  out  of  10.
