Ragnarok are a band from Norway that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a traditional Norwegian style of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Psychopathology" which was released by Agonia Records.
A very heavy and fast black metal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats, tremolo picking and high pitched screams and the music also brings in melodies at times while being very heavily rooted in the Nordic style and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic fashion.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the vocals also g wet very grim at times along with some songs also bringing in a small amount of clean playing and the riffs also get technical at times and demonstrate a great amount of talent and skill and some songs also add in a brief use of classical guitars and the songs remain true to a 90's style without sounding out of date.
Ragnarok creates an album that is very true to the Nordic style of black metal and stay away from the keyboards of earlier material and go for more of an aggressive take on the genre, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the dark side of the human mind along with a touch of Satanism.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Ragnarok and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Hate" and "Infernal Majesty". 8 out of 10.
