The Scars In Pneuma/Woebegone Raised By Wolves/Deadwoods Productions/2023 EP Review

 

  Italy's  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  epic  and  melodic  style  of b lack  metal  with  elements  of  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  ep  "Woebegone  Raised  By  Wolves"  which  will  be  released  on  June  30th  by  Deadwoods  Productions.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  all  of  the  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them and   the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  growling  death  metal  style.  

  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.  Clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  female  vocals  also  being  added  on  the  first  track   as  well  as  a  later  song  also  adding  in  shouts  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  they  also  add  in  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  expands  on  their  epic  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  by  mixing  in  elements  of  doom  and  death  emtal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Webegone  Raised  By  Wolves".  8  out  of  10.

Ogen/The Scars In Pneuma/The Eerie Chronicles/Deadwoods Productions/2021 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Italy's  Ogen  and  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  called  "The  Eerie  Chronicles"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Deadwoods  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ogen  a band  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  along  with  some ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  some  clear  vocals  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  the  heavier  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on t heir  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  both  of  their tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  Ogen  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Eternity  Unguarded".

  Next  up  is  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  a  band  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  rain  sounds  before  adding  in  some  clean  playing  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Scars  in  Pneuma  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ascending  the  Mountain  Of  Old".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of t he  ambient,  atmospheric  and  melodic  styles  of  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

The Scars In Pneuma/The Path Of Seven Sorrows/Promethean Fire/Kolony Records/2018 CD Review

  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  very  epic  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "The  Path  Of  Seven  Sorrows"  which  will  be  released  in  2019  as  a  joint  effort  between  Promethean  Fire  and  Kolony  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  yet  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  some  elements  of  death  metal  at  times,  one  song  also  introduces  female  vocals  and  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  synths  can  also  be  heard.

  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  epic  and  melodic  sounding  while  also  adding  in  some  death  metal  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dealing  with  your  own  demons,  life's  biggest  regrets,  the  passing  of  time  and  the  beloved  people  we  lost  themes.

  In  my  opinion  The  Scars  In  Pneuma  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  :"Souls  Are  Burning"  'The  Secrets  That  We  Keep"  and  "The  Glorious  Empire  Of  Sand".  8  out  of  10.
