1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1. Siete Lagunas is a “side project” founded by two members of Cóndor, Antonio and Francisco. The idea started around a year ago. All material is written and recorded in short, spontaneous bursts, which allows us to work in a different manner, and channel different energies, than we do in Cóndor.
2.So far you have released 2 demo's, how do they both differ from each other?
2. I suppose the second one is more aggressive and “dark,” with more prominent dissonances and more use of noise. However, they’re generally quite similar, as they form the opening “chapters” in a larger narrative.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
3. The band’s lyrics are attempts to channel the spirits of the mountains and the lakes around us. They are not so much poems or songs as they are evocations.
4.One of your songs is based upon the poetry of W.B Yeats, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this author?
4. Our interest in Yeats is great. From an evidently different perspective, both temporally and geographically, we feel that he was amongst those “romantic” poets who were trying to grasp at the same things we are trying to grasp at, most importantly a way to reconnect our lives and spirits with the rhythms of the natural world.
His metric sensibility has also had an impact on our of way of thinking rhythmically.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Siete Lagunas'?
5. Siete lagunas means Seven Ponds or Seven Lakes. The Pre-Columbian Chibcha speaking peoples who inhabited our native region in the Central Colombian Andes were a lake/pond culture, and seven of these particular ponds scattered throughout the mountains they held as forming a particularly sacred network. That is what the name refers to.
6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding your line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?
6. Most likely the band will always remain a duo. The project thrives off of the particular chemistry between the two of us.
7.So far there is very little information about the band online except for a bandcamp page, is this intentional?
7. The information that is available, along with the one we give out in interviews such as this one, is all the information that is necessary.
8.Recently both demo's where released as a single album by 'La Caverna Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
8. La Caverna records was recently started by a longtime friend and collaborator of ours. He is a very capable and hard-working individual with strong criteria. La Caverna is likely to put out very interesting things in the future and we are honoured to have been among the first batch of releases on the label.
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
9. The reaction has been minimal, as publicity has been minimal. So far the few reviews that have surfaced have been largely positive.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10. The band will continue evoking the same spirits, whether through Black Metal or through other means.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11. The band is influenced, evidently, by Black Metal bands such as Beherit, Ildjarn and early Spear of Longinus. There is a more melodic edge to our thinking too, as well as an affinity for certain “experimental” musics, particularly harsh noise. Currently I (Antonio) am listening to Finnish bands, particularly Circle of Dawn, as well as classical music (mostly Dvorak and Elgar) and the English folk anthology Anthems in Eden.
