Barshasketh/Outre/Third Eye Temple/2017 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  New  Zealand/United  Kingdom's  Barshasketh  and  Poland's  Outre  both  bands  which  also  have  had  their  previous  works  reviewed  in  this  blog  along  with  the  ep  being  released  on  November  20th  by  Third  Eye  Temple  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Barshasketh  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  atmospheric  synths  while  their  track  is  also  7  minutes  in  length  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  based  on  the philosophical  writings  of  Martin  Heidegger.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Barshasketh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up is  Outre  which  shows  their  music  going  into  more  of  an  aggressive  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  heavy,  raw  and  technical  sound  along  with  some  angry  black  metal  vocals  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  a  very  melodic  and  atmospheric  musical  style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  as  well  with  the  previous  band  are  based  upon  the  philosophical  writings  of  Martin  Heidegger.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  fast  and  aggressive  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Outre/Ghost Chants/Godz Of War Productions/Third Eye Temple/2015 Full Length Review

  Outre  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Ghost  Chants"  which  will  be  released  in  April  as  a  joint  effort  between  Godz  Of  War  Productions  and  Third  Eye  Temple.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  getting  even  more  heavier  and  a  few  seconds  later  clean  singing  chants  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  post  metal  style  melodic  guitar  leads  and  after  the  intro   the music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  direction  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  At  times  the  vocals  bring  in  grim  growls  and  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  melodies  also  have  a  progressive  feeling  to  them  at  times  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  time s the  music  brings  in  a  few  avant  garde  style  drones  and  you  can  also  hear  quite  a  bit  of  the  more  modern  and  brutal  approach  to  black  metal  in  most  of  the  tracks  along  with  a  touch  of  blackened  death  metal  and  they  also  mix  in  a  bit  of  the  post  style  on  the  later  tracks  with  the  more  dark  and  grim  style  of  black  metal.

  Outre  creates  a  black  metal  album  that  takes  the  raw  and  melodic  side  of  the  genre  and  mixes  it  in  with  the  more  modern  and  brutal  side  of  the  genre  while  also  add  in  a  touch  of  the  post  style  to  create  a  very  original  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  religion,  occultism  and  dreams.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Outre  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  modern  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shadow"  "Lament"  and  "Arrival".  8  out  of  10.

Outre/Tranquility/2013 EP Review

  Outre  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  modern  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  thrash,  death,  prog  and  post  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  ep  "Tranquility".

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  playing  with  some  fast  drumming  and  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  sound  effects  when  they  are  utilized  bring  elements  of  ambient  and  prog  to  the  recording  along  with  a  brief  use  of  saxophones,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  modern  black  metal  riffs   that  also  combine  influences  from  thrash,  death,  post  and  prog  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  along  with  some  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  leads  and  solos  which  also  use  some  extreme  metal  elements.

  Vocals  range  from  deep  to  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  have  a  very  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times  as  well  as  some whispers,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Nature,  Religion  and  Occultism,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  and  heavy  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  ep.

  In  my  opinion  Outre  are  a  very  great  and  original  sounding  modern  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  thrash,  death,  post  and  prog  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Of  Drowning"  and  "Sea  Of  Mercury".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
