Hamvak/Maelstrom Of Abhorrent Incantations/Morbid Chapel Records/Rotten Tomb Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Hamvak  are  a  solo  project  from  Hungary  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Maelstrom  Of  Abhorrent  Incantations"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Morbid  Chapel  and  Rotten  Tomb  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  emtal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  gr4eat  amount  of  blast b eats  and  tremolo  picking.  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  yet  guttural  sounding  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  also b rings  in t he  brutality  of  that  genre.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of t he  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  but  keeping  it  modern  at  the  same  time.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  darkness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hamvak  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Arrows  Of  Vengeance"  and  "The  Glorious  Return  of  Death".  8  out  of  10.

Hamvak/Self Titled/Neverheard Distro/Fekete Terror Productions/2017 Demo Review

  Hamvak  are  a  solo  project  originally  from  Hungary  but  now  located  in  Germany  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  2017  demo  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Neverheard  Distro  and  Fekete  Terror  Productions.


  Battle  sounds  start  off  the  demo before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  while  black  metal  screams  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  while  the  music  also  adds  in  elements  of  war  metal  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  always  remains.

  Hamvak  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  ancestral  legends,  superstitions,  Heathen  cosmology,  sorcery  and  ritual  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Hamvak  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t hose  musical  genres,  you should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Chants  Of  The  Primordial  Pantheon".  8  out  of  10.
