Noctilium/Pessimista/Nailed Nazarene Industries/2019 Split Album Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Noctilium  and  Brazil's  Pessimista  which  was  released  in  2019  by  Nailed  Nazarene  Industries  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Noctillium  a  duo  who  returns  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

During  the  faster  sections  of  their  songs  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  along  with  a  couple  of  their  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  split  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  synths,  whispered  and  folk  instruments  also  being  used  briefly.

When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  as  the  side  of  the  split  progresses  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard,  chants  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  occultism  and  mythology  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Noctilium  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Winds  To  Carry  the  Plague"  and  "Sajento".

Next  up  is  Pessimista  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  his  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.

Vocals  are  mostly  angry,  tortured  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  A  great  portion  of  his  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic in  length  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars,  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Portuguese  and  cover  negativity,  loneliness,  depression,  drug  addiction  and  suicide  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Pessimista  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Malditas  expectatives"  and  "Se  o  inferno  existe,  el  e  o  real  paraiso".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  atmospheric  and  occult  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Noctillium/Utherlandd/Nailed Nazarene Industries/2019 EP Review

Noctilium  are  a  duo  from  Sacramento,  California  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "Utherlandd"  which  was  released  by  Nailed  Nazarene  Industries.

Goat  sounds  start  off  the  ep  before  adding  some  melodic  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording  while  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly.  Folk  instruments  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  vocals  also  get  very  grim  sounding  as  well  as  the  third  track  bringing  in  more  of  a  90's  era  black  metal  style  and  all  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other,  melodic  guitar  leads,  clean  playing  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.

Noctilium  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  while  also  being  different  at  the  same  time.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Demonology  themes.

In  my  opinion  Noctilium  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  occult  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Utherlandd"  and  "Baal".  8  out  of  10.
