Gruzja/Koniec Wakacji/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Poland's  Gruzja  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  avant  garde  and  experimental  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Koniec  Wakacji"  which  will  be  released  in  October.

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  clear  singing  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  an  avant  garde  vibe  when  they  are  utilized.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  tracks also  adding  in  a good  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  music  also  has  its  experimental  moments  and  angry  shouts  and  growls  can  also  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the recording  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  industrial  style  beats  onto  the  album  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  added  into  the  music  they  are  done  in  more  of  a  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  the  folklore  of  Sudan  and  Sosnowiec.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gruzja  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  and  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Jerusalem  Shore"  "poczytaj  mi  tato"  "koniec  wakacji"  and  "Kciuk  cel  pal".  8 out  of  10.

Gruzja/Neon Scaffold/Konflikt/Devoted Art Propaganda/2020 Split Album Album Review

 

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Polands  Gruzja  and  Neon  Scaffold  called  "Konflikt"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Devoted  Art  Propaganda  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Neon  Scaffold  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  experimental,  psychedelic,  rock  and  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  drones  along  with  some  distorted  yet  melodic  riffing  a  few  seconds  later.  The  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  some  melody  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  grim  black  metal  style  along  with  some  avant  garde  style  clean  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the music  also  has  its  experimental  moments.  Shouts  and  spoken  word  parts are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  elements  of  electronic  music  onto  their  side  of  the  recording,  saxophones,    pianos  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and a   couple  of t heir  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Neon  Scaffold  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  experimental,  psychedelic,  rock  and  black  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Obsession"  and  "4CC".

  Next  up  is  Gruzja  a  band  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  more  of  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  style  of  black  metal,

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  drum  beats  and  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  screams  along  with  some  clean  avant  garde  style  singing  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling. Electronic  music  beats  are also  utilized  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  experimental  sounding  at  times  as  well  as  the  synths  also  bringing  in  elements  of  post  punk  when  they  are  utilized,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  brought  onto  the  recording  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  alcohol, sex  and lowlife  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gruzja  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  avant  garde  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gruz  2020"  and  "Spacer  na  wschod".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  experimental  and  avant  garde  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Gruzja/Pierwszy koncert w miescie/Devoted Art Propaganda/2020 EP Review

  Gruzja  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  black  metal  with  elements  of  post  punk  and  crust  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Pierwszy  koncert  w  miescie"  which  will  be  released  on  April  30th  by  Devoted  Art  Propaganda.

  Spoken  word  and  music  samples  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  elements  of  crust  and  post  punk  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the   recording.

  All  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  while  female  vocals  are  also  added  onto  the  second  track  and  the  whole  ep  starts  to  a  heavier  section  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.

  Gruzja  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  slow  and  mid  tempo  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  elements  of  post  punk  and  crust.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  nihilistic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Gruzja  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  post  punk  and  crust  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Moja  Ratyzbona".  8  out  of 10.
