1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
I’ve been channeling my energy on the upcoming releases. An EP called “Our Hearts Dissolved” is recorded and is being mixed and mastered as we speak. The next album “PraevaricationeM” (working title) is almost finished as well. We’ve recruited fresh blood in order perform live rituals once or twice next year.
2.In August you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
I’d say there’s quite an evolution with every record. The songs on the first album were pretty lengthy and had a passive listening in mind. This has changed since “Nihil Mali Non Inest”. The songs are now shorter and have a more complex structure.
3.This is the first release to have came out in the last 8 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?
A.D., second guitarist at the time, was supposed to handle the mixing and mastering of PIIQONP as he’s a graduated sound engineer, unfortunately he’s also a fucking lazy ass. To illustrate what I just wrote - It took him two years to roughly mix about 2 tracks. So during that time, I focused on other musical projects, took care of my family, looked for inspiration in India and wrote new material. Long story short, it took him so long that he simply got fired. Unfortunately, I had to hit the studio again as nothing was even closely finished. It was for the greater good and I must say that Phorgaath (Enthroned/Emptiness) did a killer Job at the Blackout Studio. He immediately understood where this was going and also came up with very cool ideas.
Also, I’ve started my own label called Abstruse Eerie Radiance.
4.Originally the band had more of a pure style of black metal but have also incorporated more avant garde elements over the years, what was the decision behind going into this musical direction?
It’s just a logical step inherent to the concept behind Absolutus. Nevertheless, being curious and willing to experiment, along with improving skills as a musician led us to PIIQONP.
5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
We generally keep that to ourselves but we tend to focus on Nihilism (E.M. Cioran , F. Nietzsche), metaphysical journeys, eerie experiences, dissonance and psychology.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Absolutus'? The absolute has many meanings to us. The inner absolution, the abscission of divinity and reaching another level of consciousness.
7.What are some of the best shows that the band ha s played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance? As we have only performed twice in twelve years, it’s a pretty easy task. I’d say the first show was pretty good. We opened up for Inquisition and Merrimack in 2005. Sound was good, crowd was receptive and hardly any fuck up.
8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We’re playing a festival in The Netherlands in March with Dodheimsgard, Sear Bliss, Black Death and many more. It will be the only Pugnare In Iis Quae Obtinere Non Possis set ever. We don’t focuss too much on touring in the near future. Maybe in 2017.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of black metal?
The feedback to PIIQONP has been astonishingly positive.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We’ll continue to explore new musical soil with more experimentation and session musicians.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I’d say DSO and Orthodox Black Metal in general have had a huge influence on me when I was writing PUIIQONP. Nowadays, it’s more eclectic. I’m pretty much into Chelsea Wolfe, Urfaust, Ulcerate, Secrets of the Moon, Meshuggah, Sunn O))), Fullmoon Bongzai, Ulver, Extrawelt and many others.
12.How would you describe your views on Occultism?
Occultism is a pretty wide and open term if I dare say. I’d rather keep this personal.
