Von/Dark Gods: Seven Billion Slaves/Von Records 2013 CD Review

Von  are  a  band  from  California  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  the  musical style  on  this  recording  being  black/death  metal  with  some  experimental  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Dark  Gods:  Seven  Billion  Slaves"  which  was  released  by  Von  Records  and  is  the  first  in  a  3  part  trilogy.

Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced   to  fast  playing  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  black/death  metal  riffs  that  utilize  some  experimental  elements  and  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  while  still  retaining  some  raw  and  primitive  elements, while the  lead  guitars  are  very  dark  sounding black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  all  deep  black/death  metal  growls  along  with  some  spoken  word  samples  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness,  and  Occultism,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  while  this  is  a  great  recording  from  Von  some  people  might  not  be  into the  progression  but  the  open  minded  fans  of  this  band  and  people  looking  for  something  different  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hands  Of  The  Black  Death"  "Dark  Gods"  "DevilWhore"  and  "RawRot".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Von/Satanic Blood/Von Records/2012 CD Review

Von  are  a band  from San  Francisco  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  primitive  form  of  black  metal  with  a  death  metal  edge  and  are  also  one  of  their  first  U.S.B.M  bands  as  well  as  a  huge  influence  on  later  goat  and  war  metal bands  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Satanic  Blood"  which  was  released  by  Von  Records  and  is  mostly  recorded  versions  of  their  old  songs  from their  90's  demo's.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  tone  with  primitive  black  metal  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  a  sound  that  is  more  ancient  then  the  early  Norwegian  wave  but  more  evil  sounding  with  some  death  metal  influences  being  thrown  into the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black/death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  range  from  deep  guttural  black/death  metal growls  to  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Anti  Christian  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

I  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  recording  from  Von  which  takes  all  of  their  classic  songs  and  updates  them  for  the  modern  day  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Jesus  Stain"  "Dissection  InHuman"  "satanic  Blood"  and  "Satan".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Von/Satanic Blood Angel/Nuclear War Now Productions/2002 Demo Re-Issue CD Review

Von are a band from San Francisco, California that where one of the originators of usbm and goat metal and this is a review of their demo compilation "Satanic Blood Angel: which was released in 2002 by Nuclear War Now Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced fast playing with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in the music, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with primitive riffs that dominate throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast, primitive and basic sounding early 90's style black metal riffs that utilize a good amount of death metal influence and some ocassional dark sounding melodies, while the lead guitars are very distorted and primitive sounding black/death metal guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are mostly deep black/death growls that sound very guttural with some mournful cries and spoken word parts being thrown in at times, while the lyrics cover satanic and anti christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it with some songs being recorded live.

In my opinion Von where a very great sounding influential black/death/goat metal band and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devil Pig" "Watain" "Satanic Blood" and "Chalice Of Blood". RECOMMENDED BUY.
