Thus Defiled/Through The Impure Veil Of Dawn/Vic Records/2025 Album Re-Issue Review

This  is  a  review  of  an  earlier  recording  from  United  Kingdom's  Thus  Defiled  which  showed  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  1995  and  called  "Through  The  Impure  Veil  Of  Dawn"  and  will  be  re-issued  on  November  28th,  2025  by  Vic  Records.

Dark  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  while  also  mixing  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  and  giving  the  recording  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  tracks  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

One  song  is  also  an  instrumental  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  as  well  as  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  melodic  style  when  they  are  finally  utilized,  the  bonus  tracks  are  also  from  1994  rehearsal  tapes  which  also  shows  more  of  a  rawer  style  then  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Evil  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Thus  Defiled  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school,  satanic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wings  Of  Fallen  Majesty"  "Through  The  Impure  Veil  Of  Dawn"  "Fear  us  For  We  Are  The  Darkness"  and  "Under  Blackening  Horizons".  8/5  out  of  10.

Thus  Defiled  are  a  band  from t he  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  went  for  a  very  aggressive  and  daark  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1997  album  "Wings  of  The  Nightstorm"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  November,  2025  by  Vic  Records.

Keyboard  start  off  the  album  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  and  adds  in  some  symphonic  touches.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thus  Defiled  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Rapture  of  Twilight  Burning"  "Winter's  Dawn  (Crowns  my  Empire)"  and  "The  Final  Fall  Of  The  Light".  8 out  of  10.

Thus Defiled/A Return To The Shadows/2017 EP Review

Thus  Defiled  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays a   very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  ep  "A  Return  To  The  Shadows"  which  will  be  released in  June  and  consists  of  covers  from  Death,  Metallica,  W.A.S.P  and  Morbid  along  with  one  original  and  unreleased  track.

Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  demonic  voices  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  a  more  heavier  and  melodic  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  elements  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a   decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  have  a  vintage  black/death  metal  style  to  them  along  with  a  few  growls  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  spoken  word  parts are  also  used  briefly  and  on  the  cover  songs  they  retain  the feeling  and  atmosphere  of  the  originals  while  also  mixing  in  their  own  style.

With  this  ep  Thus Defiled  bring  in  one  original  track  that  is  in  the  direction  of  their  albums  while  adding  a  black/death  metal  touch  to  the  cover  versions,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Demonology  and  Horror  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thus  Defiled  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Armagedda  In  Rupture"  and  "Hellion".  8  out  of  10.

Thus Defiled/An Unhollowed Legacy/Shadowflame Productions/2016 Compilation Review

Thus  Defiled  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  around  for  more  than  20  years  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  compilation  album  "An  Unhallowed  Legacy"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Shadowflame  Productions  and  contains  2000  and  2002  ep's  "A  Darker  Beauty"  and  "Fire  Serpent  Dawn".

A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  that  are  a  very  huge  part  of  both  recordings  and  after  awhile  grim  black  metal  screams  make  their presence  known  in  the  music  and  the  keyboards  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  and  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  slower  riffs.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  start  bringing  in  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  at  times  the  riffs  can  be  very  melodic  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  more  of  a  melodic  fashion  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  all  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

When  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  dark  atmosphere  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  growls  and  as  the  compilation  progresses  the  riffs  start  utilizing  more tremolo  picking  and the  way  the  songs  where  produced  still  sounds  very  powerful  to  this  day  and  on  the  second  ep  the  guitar  leads  and  riffs  start  incorporating  more  traditional  metal  elements  while some  riffs  start  adding  in  more  thrash  influences  while  also  keeping  the  raw  aggression  that  was  presented  on  the  first  recording.

Thus  Defiled  played  a  style  of  black  metal  on  these  recordings  that  where  very  atmospheric  for  their  time  while  capturing  the  raw  and  melodic  vibe  of  that  era  and  also dding  in  a  touch  of  death  metal  which  makes  the  music  stand  out a  bit  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Demonology  and  Occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Thus  Defiled  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eden  Stands  Aflame"  and  "Beyond  The  Seventh  Circle  Of  Fire".  8  out  of  10.
