Written In Torment/Black Command/Purity Through Fire/2022 CD Review

 

  United  Kingdom's  Written  In  Torment  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  epic,  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Black  Command"  which  will  be released  in  July  by  
Purity  Through  Fire.

  Heavy  yet  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs.

  On  this  recording  Written  In  Torment expands  from  a  solo  project  to  full  line  up  goes  for  more  of  an  epic  and  melodic  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  also  mixes  the  90's  era  in  with  a  more  up  to  date  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Human  Suffering  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Written  In  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic,  melodic  and  old  school  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anger  Road"  and  "Black  Command".  8  out  of  10.

Written In Torment/Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum/Sleaszy Rider Records/2017 Full Length Review

  Written  In  Torment  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Si   Vis  Pacem,  Para  Bellum"  which  was  released  by  Sleaszy  Rider  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats,  tremolo  picking  and  grim  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  album  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

    Some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  lot  of  second  wave  influences  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time  and  melodic vocals  are  also  used  briefly  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  movie  samples  and  some  riffs  also  add  in  a  touch  of  traditional  metal  and  thrash  along  with  some  solos  that  have  a  technical  death  metal  edge  to  them.

  Written  In  Torment  creates  another  recording  that  brings  in  a  raw  style  of  occult  black  metal  while  also  mixing  in  influences  from  other  genres  of  metal  to  take  their  sound  to  a  different  level,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Human  Suffering  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Written  In  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spear  Of  Destiny"  "Worthless  Child  Race"  and  "Ouroboros,  Thou  Art  Levithan".  8  out  of  10.

  Written  In  Torment  are  a  solo  project  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  promo  which  was  released  by  Glorious  North  Productions.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  few  seconds  alter  melodic  guitar  leads  make  their  presence  known  in  the  music  along  with  some  deep yet  grim  black  metal  screams  and  epic  sounding  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  the  music.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording h ave  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  both  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  while  the  clean  signing  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  pagan  atmosphere  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Written  In  Torment  bring  2  songs  on  this  promo  that  are  very  true  to  the  raw  style  of  90's  black  metal  while  also  having  more  epic  structures  and  melody  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  up  to  date  feeling,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Written  In  Torment  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  epic  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Spear  Of  Destiny". 8  out  of  10.

Written In Torment/Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes/Glorious North Productions/2013 CD Review

  Written  In  Torment  are  a  1  man  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  grim,  dark,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Bellum  Omnium  Contra  Omnes"  which  was  released  by  Glorious  North  Productions.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars, a s  for  the  synths  when t hey  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  dark,  epic  and  atmospheric  sound  to  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  some  raw  and  primitive  elements  as  well  as  some  dark  sounding  melodies  in  the  riffing  as  well  as  some  thrash  and  death  elements,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads  that  utilize  a  great  amount  of  skill  and  talent.

  Vocals  range  from  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  to  deep  demonic  growls  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  samples,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Anti  Christian  and  Human  Suffering  topics,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Written  In  Torment  are  a  very  great  sounding  heavy,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Earth  Decimated"  "Descent  Into  Total  Madness"  "Behold  The  Trinity  Maimed  And  Rot"  and  "Necessary  Evil".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
