1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with
the band these days?
PB: We are hard at work on our next full length
album – we are completely concentrated on writing new material right now. There
has also been an alteration in the line-up – we decided to add a separate
bassist as it will give me more freedom to make even more perverse and cruel
vocal patterns.
2.How would you describe the musical sound of
the newer material?
PB: The new material has gone in two directions
– some of the songs are more stripped down and direct, while some of the others
have gone the other way, with a far higher level of technicality. However, they
all sound like Sturmtiger, we always have our raw and primitive war metal
sections in every song to keep up the level of barbarity.
3.Your lyrics cover both World Wars, can you
tell us a little bit more about your interest in war?
PB: War has existed from the beginning of time,
since the first pre-human primate smashed in the head of another from a
different social group with a rock. Our lyrics don’t always cover World War I
and II in particular, they are about war, violence, and man’s urge for supremacy
over his fellow man throughout history. What we try to convey is more about the
atmosphere of war and conquest, the fear and bloodlust of a warrior on the
battlefield, the concept of unstoppable forces clashing in an orgy of bloodshed.
A lot of the lyrics do not glorify war, they are about the filth and smoke, the
stench of blood on the wind and the terror of mass death.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind
the name 'Sturmtiger'?
PB: The Sturmtiger was a WWII German naval
mortar based on a Tiger tank platform. We thought that the name of this bestial
bombardment weapon suited a war metal band perfectly.
5.Originally the band was from Denmark but
re-located to the United Kingdom, what was the cause of the move?
PB: VJ decided to move to the UK, and he is the
founder and main writer of the band’s music.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band
has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage
performance?
PB: We always try to attack the audience head
on, total violence! We want to make the stage show more extreme, and maybe now
we can do this as I am no longer tied to my place in front of the mike.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the
future?
PB: We are concentrating on the new album right
now, but we are planning to play some European festivals next summer. Nothing is
set in stone yet, though. We do not play live all that often to keep it a bit
more special, instead of constantly prostituting ourselves with worthless
gigs.
8.A year ago you were a part of a split with
'Minenwerfer', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on
the recording?
PB: They have decent imagery and lyrics and I
think they were a good match for a split with us.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback
been to your music by fans of black, war and death metal?
PB: We’ve had some decent reviews and people
getting in contact with us from all around the world. Many people really like
the first album and what came before, but I think we need to make what we play
even better and more original.
10.What is going on with some of the other
bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part
of?
PB: Necrosadistic Goat Torture (death/thrash
with some BM elements) is beginning to write a new album, we have started to
play live shows again and get more active. We are planning to play at some
festivals next summer – but nothing is set in stone yet, the whole history of
that band has been complete chaos. I also have a new project called Vötary,
which is more primitive and slower than anything I did before – I guess it’s
similar to Hellhammer and maybe some early Samael. We will be recording a demo
and starting to play live soon.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles
that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening
to nowadays?
PB: we are all listening and influenced by old
school death, black, thrash metal, ambient, jazz, classical music. Everything
thats good
