Auka/La ultima frontera/Kulto 13/2026 Full Length Review

Auka  are  a  band  from  Chile  that  plays  a  very  melodic  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "La  ultima  frontera"  which  was  released  by  Kulto  13.

Clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  which  also  return  on  a  later  track  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier and  melodic  direction while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a   very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals bring  in  a  mixture  of  growls  and  black  metal  screams and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clear  pagan  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffing  also  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  it  is  utilized,  keyboards  are  also  used  briefly  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals.

Auka  plays  a  style  of  pagan  black  metal t hat  is  very  melodic,  atmospheric,  aggressive  and  traditional  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  history  of  the  city  Villarrica,  Chile  and  the  events  surrounding  the  Mapuche  territory  during  the  process  of  Spanish  conquest  and  Colonization.

In  my  opinion  Auka  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  melodic  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hacia  los  rios  de  oro"  "Cenizas  de  la  Villa  Rica"  and  "La  ultima  frontera".  8  out  of  10.
