Chaos Invocation/Wherever We Roam.../AOP Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  Chaos  Invocation  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  melodic,  raw,  satanic  and  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Wherever  We  Roam..."which  will  be  released  in  November  by  AOP  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  old  school  touches  as  well  as  remaining  very  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album.

  Clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  songs  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chaos  invocation  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic,  raw,  satanic  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wherever  We  Roam"  "Bridges  Aflame"  and  "Engravings  Of  The  Quivering  Pedestal".  8  out  of  10.

Chaos Invocation/Devil, Stone & Man/W.T.C Productions/2022 CD Review

 

  Germany's  Chaos  Invocation  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  aggressive,  modern,  satanic  and  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2022  album  "Devil,  Stone  &  Man"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  balance  between  old  school  and  modern  influences  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  some  melodic  vocals  also  being  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  the  recording  also  closes  with  an  instrumental  which  also  adds  in  some  horror  movie  style  synths  and  acoustic  gutiars.

  On  this  recording  Chaos  invocation  goes  for  more  of  a  modern,  aggressive  and  satanic  style  of  occult  black  metal,  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Chaos  Invocation  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Strike  Of  The  Dominator's  Fist"  "Odonata  Fields"  and  "The  Revolting  Abyss".  8  out  of  10.

Chaos Invocation/Reaping Season, Bloodshed Beyond/W.T.C Productions/2018 CD Review

  Chaos  Invocation  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  atmospheric,  melodic  and  satanic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Reaping  Season,  Bloodshed  Beyond" which  will  be  released  in  March  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  Ritualistic  chanting  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean playing,  synths  and  bells  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  vocals  also using  a melodic  and  clean style  at  times,  some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.

  The  ritualistic  elements  also  making  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  the  album  progresses  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths  being  added  into  the  music  briefly  and  when  growls  are utilized  they  are  done  in  more  of  a  demonic  fashion  and  towards  the  end  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples  can  also  be  heard.

  Chaos  Invocation  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  style  of  occult black  metal  while  also  showing  a  great  amount  of  progress  as  musicians,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Occultism  and  Left  Hand  Path  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another great  sounding  recording  from  Chaos  Invocation  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Calling  From  Dudail"  "The  Search  Of  Keys  And  Gates"  "Luciferian  Terror  Chorale"  and  "Ajna  Assassins  Absolute".  8/5  out  of  10.

Chaos Invocation Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We are currently preparing our set for Incubate Festival where we will share the stage together with Mayhem, Khold and Immortal. We are looking forward to this ceremony and want to make it a remarkable one.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?

I think, that “Black Mirror Hours” is more personal than the “In Bloodline With The Snake” record and probably more emotional. It is less raw, but still aggressive, more powerful, atmospheric and with deeper reaching lyrics.
The sound is much wider, since it is created through many layers. This time we had more days in the studio and knew exactly how the album should sound. In the end we are very satisfied with the result. The character of the interplay between the instruments seems to have a core or root that lies beyond this plane…

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?

“Black Mirror Hours” is pretty much a compendium of the past four years. Being a member of this fraternity called Chaos Invocation means to develop and to increase your knowledge every day. Therefore a very dominant topic of the album is our aspiration for spiritual liberation. We are calling gods and use different tools in our invocations and rituals. The black mirror is one of those; specially used to make contact he also bears the opportunity to give a reflection of the self, that is not comparable with the reflection given through a normal mirror.

4. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

It is sheer impossible to describe our stage performance. I guess that is the job of others. What I can say about our live rituals is, that we try to release something of our world into the world of others.
The best concerts that we have played took place on French soil. Specially the one in Luynes in 2011.

5. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

We don’t have any concrete plans yet. We are hungry and ready to escalate with our audience, so we hope that we can realize a tour within the next months.

6. Currently the band is signed to World Terror Committee, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?

We got in contact in 2007. We send them some rehearsals because we thought (and still do) that W.T.C. is the most satanic label on this whole planet. After listening to our songs they wanted us to record an album. And so we did. The result infected the black metal underground and is known under the title “In Bloodline With The Snake”. Since then the World Terror Committee supported us in every thinkable way on the religious and the musical hand.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of satanic and occult black metal?

The feedback was quite positive. Yes, it is decent to receive some positive and honestly spoken words when it comes to our music, but in the end it has no influence on our work. We will not leave the path we are walking one, no matter how the feedback will be.


8. Are there any other musical projects going on these days?

Yes, but they do not have any effect on Chaos Invocation because they exist entirely separated.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

That question can only be answered by the future itself. We are developing constantly and with us our music. But we expect some good albums and tours, that is probably everything we can tell you already.

10. What are some bands and musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Well there are several bands that we respect may it be Mayhem (for their “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” record), Dissection or Abigor, but I can’t say in which way they have influenced us. And to be honest, I don’t care. I will never compare our work with the music of other bands.
Since we started with Chaos Invocation our faith was our biggest influence, our gear/ impulse and inspiration.

11. How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism and are there certain occult philosophers and magickans that you take inspiration from?

We learned from interviews we did in the past and made the experience that it is better to answer the questions relating to our religious faith only with the link to our lyrics. Too few are able to understand.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Since our music is inseparable linked to our magical work there are not that many other relevant interests. Well, I am reading a lot and do sports to be not only mentally, but also physically fit. There are some dependencies between both…

  Chaos  Invocation  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  dark,  atmospheric,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Black  Mirror  Hours"  which  was  released  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  synths  which  are  only  used  briefly  bring  a  very  dark  and  occult  sound  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  being  thrown  into the  riffing  as  well  as  some  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  and  hateful  sounding  black  metal  screams  that  have  a  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times  along  with  some  clean  singing  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  whispers  and  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian, Occultism  and  other  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Chaos  Invocation  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Mirror"  "The  Beckoning  Flame"  "Lord  Of  Our  Temple" and  "Into  The  Living  Darkness".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
