Dizziness/Abhorrent Flickering Of Obscurity/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Greece's  Dizziness  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  aggressive form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2024  album  "Abhorrent  Flickering  Of  Obscurity".

  A  very  dark,   melodic  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  add  in  dissonant  touches.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  both  modern  and  old  school  influences.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  spoken  word  samples  also  being  utilized  on  a  couple  of  tracks.

  Angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  synths  also  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental.  Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  there  are  also  some  session  vocals  from  members  of  Bessat,  Melan  Selas  and  Temple  Of  Evil.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  mysticism  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dizziness  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive  and  traditional  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Into  Nullity"  and  "A  Limping  Pilgrim".  8  out  of  10.

Dizziness/Lord Impaler/Hell Poemer/Carved By The Winds Eternal/Symbol Of Domination Productions/2016 3 Way Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  3  way  split  album  between  Greece's  Dizziness,  Lord  Impaler  and  Hell  Poemer  called  "Carved  By  The  Winds  Eternal"  which  was  released  by  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Dizziness  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  traditional  form  of  Greek  black  metal.

  There  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  atmospheric  soundscapes  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and raw  black  metal  direction  that  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  vocals  are  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

  Both  of  their  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid paced   and  fast parts  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  melodies  at  times   and  both  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  there  is  also  some  session  work  from  Iapettos  666  of  Unholy  Archangel  on  the  second  song,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  powerful  at  the  same  time  while the  lyrics  cover  folklore,  ancient  lore  and  mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sound  recording  from  Dizziness  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  Greek  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Goddess  Of  the  Moon".

  Next  up  is  Lord  Impaler  a  band  that  plays  a  Hellenic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  sound  that  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  while  the  vocals  are  grim  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of   the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  split    and  both  of  their  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  There  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  while  the  second  song  is  a  cover  of  Bathory's  "Call  From  The  Grave"   which  also  has  more  rawness  than  the  original   version,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Christian  and  Ancient  Hellenic  Pride  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Lord  Impaler  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  Hellenic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "A  Fire  That  Burns".

  Closing  the  split  is  Hell  Poemer  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  epic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  style  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  also  mixing  it  in  with  melodic  guitar  leads  and  atmospheric  synths  while  the  vocals  are  grim  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts.

  All  of   the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  and  the  second  track  has  a  more  tragic  approach  with  the  synths  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  whispers,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Ancient  Pride,  Philosophy  and  the  Dark  Side  Of  Nature.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  very  great sounding  recording  from  Hell  Poemer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic  and  raw  Greek  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Sacral  Knot  Of  The  Hierophant".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Greek  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Dizziness/Bound By Strength/Old Graves Productions/2015 Cassette Review

  Dizziness  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  Hellenic  black  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Bound  By  Strength"  which  was  released  by  Old  Graves  Productions.

  Thunderstorm  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  which  are  also  used  on  other  songs  as  well  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  using  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  adding  in  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  after  awhile  blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  All  of   the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  a  very  melodic direction  and  the  song s also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  melodic  chants  and  when  synths  are  used  briefly  they  add  more  of  an  epic  and  atmospheric  feeling  to  the  recording  and  they  close  the  album  with  Varathron's  "Deep  Beneath  An  Ancient  Dominion".

  Dizziness  creates  another  great  Hellenic  style  black  metal  album  that  is  a  perfect  balance  between  rawness,  melody  and  epic  atmospheres,   the  production  sound s very  raw  yet  powerful  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  folklore,  ancient  heritage,   mysticism  and  Hellenic  Pride.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dizziness  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Legion"  "Myrmidons"  and  "Prometheus".  8  out  of  10.

Dizziness/Lykauges/At The Whirland of The Storm/War Productions/2012 Split Cassette Review

  This is a review of a split between 2 bands from Greece named Dizziness and Lykauges called "At The Whirlwind Of The Storm" which was released by War Productions with some bonus tracks and we will start of the review with Dizziness which plays a very raw and primitive from of hellenic black metal.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast druming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding with a good amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the music that capture the classic Greek feeling as well as some thrash style riffing and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on their side of the recording.

Vocals are mostly grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls that have a hateful feeling to them and spoken word parts, while the lyrics cover Folklore, Ancient Heritage and Mysticism, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Dizziness are a very great sounding raw and primitive hellenic black metal band with a melodic edge in addition with the best music on this split and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "At The Whirlwind Of The Storm" and "Omega". RECOMMENDED

Next up is Lykauges a band that plays a very raw and primitive old school form of hellenic occult black metal.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with hellenic black metal riffs that dominate throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast hellenic black metal riffs that have a 90's feeling to them as well as some riffing that utilizes some death metal influences as well as some melody, in addition there is some clean playing being utilized on the last song, while the lead guitars which are only utilized briefly they have a melodic feeling to them.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover Ancient Greek Subjects, Nihilism, and Occultism, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Lykauges are a very great sounding hellenic old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out  this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Smashing The Hordes Of Purity" and "Abysmal Authority". RECOMMENDED.

In my opinion this is a great split of Greek black metal and if you are a fan of this style, you should add this to your collection. RECOMMENDED BUY.
